G.Laing Stone Craft

Garry Laing set up G. Laing Stonecraft in June 1998, although Garry himself had already been in the trade for 18 years by then. The experiences he brought to the company included, quarrying the sandstone at source, the cutting, milling, polishing and slabbing of the material. Using various types of machinery, including, Mono blades, circular saws, polishing discs and milling wheels.

He later moved on to the manufacture of fireplaces, both modern and traditional. Then moving on site for the building and fixing and general restoration of old or Historic buildings and monuments. The art of carving sandstone has stood him in good stead within the stonemasonry fraternity, drawing experience from working at Moray Stone Cutters initially, then moving to Edinburgh with Watsons Stonecraft.

Also gaining vital experience from other masonry colleagues with techniques gathered from all over. Garry is now passing on his experience with his trainees, including CITB apprentices, experienced labourers and of course he also employs first-class Stonemasons.

But, here at G. Laing Stonecraft we try and cover most aspects of the industry including the cleaning of buildings and monuments, manufacture and building of fireplaces, natural paving stones, random rubble etc. We will undertake any type of sandstone project confidently.

Testimonials

The fireplace is working beautifully and the stone is in fine form. I followed your instruction to the letter and am very happy with the results.

Kind Regards

We are really pleased with the work you have done to the house. The group of lads you sent were brilliant, a real asset to the company. They worked so hard and were always polite; the kids are missing seeing them around the house already. We would not hesitate to use your company again for any future work.

As Equivalently Chief Executive of the Diocese of Aberdeen I want to say how pleased we are with the replacement sandstone statue of Our Lady in the niche on the south-west face of our cathedral. As suggested, this is surely the high point of the restoration work your company has been undertaking here. We are also pleased with the coverage you got in the Press & Journal. Again, many thanks for what you have achieved for us.
