Robert Findlay Stonemasons & Builders
After serving my time as an apprentice stonemason with Hunter and Clarke over 28 years ago in 1985 I decided to leave the stability of a large firm and set up my own business. Through word of mouth and local advertisement I grew a large clientele in the Pollokshields, Newlands, Clarkston, Whitecraigs, Newton Mearns and Giffnock areas where there are an abundance of large sandstone properties. Taking my son Craig on as an apprentice we eventually subcontracted our services to an Insurance company Insurerepair. Through this company we travelled all over Scotland carrying out all manners of stonework and building repairs.
In more recent times we have been one of the main contractors working for Glasgow University carrying out regular maintenance on the magnificent stone buildings throughout the University. Due to working in the University we are covered with all aspects of insurance policies so that our clients have peace of mind when we are carrying out work on their property’s. We also carry out maintenance works in St Margaret’s Church Newlands and Broom Church Newton Mearns.

Stone Restoration
We are experienced in working on historic, heritage and fragile buildings. Our approach is to be as empathetic as possible to preserve the historic integrity of the structure using traditional methods and materials.
Lime Pointing
Lime pointing of traditional masonry using lime mortar based on lime putty or natural hydraulic lime (NHL) offers many advantages over cement based mortars.
Stone Cleaning
We can carry out a controlled jet wash that allows us to clean delicate sandstone aswell as mono blocks, slabs etc."
Stone Surveys
A stone survey provides a detailed report on the condition of the property or structure. This helps to determine the most suitable methods.
Landscaping
