Torus Stonecraft

Torus Stonecraft's seeds were planted in 1994 when Greig Sivills began a stonemasonry apprenticeship at St Mary's Cathedral Workshop in Edinburgh.

His training mainly focused on learning the skill of stonemasonry the traditional way - with hand tools only.

Stone replacement, template making and the use and application of lime mortars were major aspects of the training he received at St Mary's and skills that he still draws upon to this day.

Greig was chosen to represent Edinburgh at national stone cutting championships for two consecutive years and was presented with the apprentice of the year award at Telford College.

Upon completing his apprenticeship, Greig was asked to stay on at St Mary's as Assistant Foreman, to train new apprentices and pass on his hard earned skills.

In 2003 Greig moved into the field of stone conservation, which saw him travel all over Scotland to work on a long list of interesting and prestigious projects including Rosslyn Chapel, Edinburgh Castle, St Giles Cathedral and Stirling Cemetery.

During the next 10 years, Greig honed his skills in architectural carving and conservation, developing a highly detailed approach to working with fragile and historically significant stonework.

After 20 years of experience in the trade, it was time to start his own company and in 2014 Greig founded Torus Stonecraft.

Since then the company has been involved in many projects. One of the highlights being the relocation of the William Chambers statue in Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

Torus Stonecraft continue to strive for the highest quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail in every project we undertake, as well as providing a friendly and professional service to our clients.
